Website asking for your activation referral

People continue to find clever ways to get TiVo referrals. For myself, I use this blog in hopes to get more. Since starting my Troy on Tivo blog about 1.5 years ago, I've only obtained 4 from kind strangers. I continue to hold out hope to eventually have enough for the Series 3 prize like fellow blogger Alex recently achieved, wow! Unfortunately, I can't put in the time to blog about TiVo every day, resulting in less readership and potential new TiVo subscribers. But when I do blog, I try to make posts that are insightful and unique. If you want to help my cause, please use my email [tpullis at yahoo dot com] upon activation. Much appreciated :)

One attempt I've seen is postings made to craigslist asking for them. This goes against the terms of the site, and usually the postings are quickly removed. So tonight I found a new approach I had yet to encounter -- a website www.freetivorewards.com devoted to asking for them. He explains that he will give away half of the TiVo rewards points as prizes to people who use him as their TiVo referrer. For example, if he gets 14 referrals, he will have 70,000 TiVo rewards points--enough for two ipod Nanos--one goes to him and one to a lucky soul drawn from the 14. He even has a top 10 reasons list to further state his case. The FAQ page explains that the site was launched in Feb 2006, so maybe it hasn't worked out and he's given up.

Thanks in advance if you are kind enough to send your TiVo activation referral my way and skip this guy's website approach.

TiVo Series 3 remote

This is an excellent article focused on how great the new remote is: its shape, button layout, ease of use, and packed with features. Well worth reading if you are on the fence about getting the High Def S3. And don't forget about the special $200 Father's Day rebate now offered on the Series 3 thru June 16, 2007.

TiVo Down Under

Australians will soon have access to TiVo, a mere 10 years after it launched in the US. New Zealand will get it as well. Too bad the Aussies had to wait so long. I thought we lived in such a fast paced global economy. Here is the official press release from TiVo. Below is a short release from the Associated Press.

Seven Media Bringing TiVo to Australia Under Exclusive Agreement
ALVISO, Calif. (AP) -- Australia's
Seven Media Group said Tuesday it will bring TiVo Inc.'s digital video recording products and services to the country in 2008.
Financial terms of the exclusive agreement were not disclosed.
The TiVo service will be available across Australia and should launch in the first half of next year, according to the companies.

USS TiVo

No, it's not the name of a new battleship or air-craft carrier. It stands for Universal Swivel Search, and it's the latest feature about to roll out to all Series 2 and 3 boxes. TiVo.com had this to say about it:

{Just enter your search term, then "Swivel" to see related programs by actor, topic, or show. Looking for movies from your favorite actor? Find a movie starring that actor, then Swivel to see all other movies with that actor -- whether they're coming up on broadcast TV or available from Amazon Unbox. New recordings are only a Swivel away!}

Strange name in my opinion, and I wonder if it will gain traction as an acronym everyone will come to know (such as RSS or AJAX). There are a bunch of blogs and articles about this new feature, I'll leave it for you to google them. But if you want to get on the priority so this new feature hits your TiVo box as soon as posible, click here and enter your Service Number. Click here for the official press release.

Learn How TiVo Works

This article is focused exclusively on TiVo, from the folks at HowStuffWorks.com. It gives an overview, explains the Series 1 through the newer Series 3 boxes, talks about the service subscriptions, briefly looks at TiVo competitors, and details all the features that set TiVo apart from the pack. A good read if you are in the market for a TiVo or even for those who already own one, enjoy.

Learn How DRV Works

I came across this nice 6-part article from the HowStuffWorks.com site that explains how DVR systems work. It's meant to be a general article, not specific to any one vendor. However, they make many references to TiVo, especially in section 4 with HD. A nice read for anyone wanting to get a better overview of DVR technology, not necessarily a product review, from a neutral source.

These are perfect replicas of the TiVo mascot made into cakes for a wedding. Kudos to this woman, who has some major baking talent to make them stand up like that. I just can't figure out why somebody would want a TiVo theme for their wedding cake? Here's wishing them a long life filled with love, happiness, children, and ... TiVo.

My TiVo Gets Me ad campaign

Ok, I guess I've been waaaay out of the loop for a week. I finally got caught up on TiVo news tonight and learn from Dave Zatz's blog that TiVo launched a new mega ad campaign under the "My TiVo Gets Me" theme. There's a new website, commercials, and a big contest for a HDS3 and Plasma TV where you can create a profile and upload a video to YouTube. Hopefully this will "get" TiVo a boost in sales!

Looks like TiVo is trying a new marketing approach and setting up a demo kiosk area at this shopping mall. Has anyone seen this at their local mall, and if so, did you check it out?
