The beauty of Yahoo scheduling

If you have never tried scheduling your TiVo from Yahoo TV, your're missing out. There's a few simple steps getting it setup, but once you do, you've got a great new tool to record shows from any web connection. Maybe you're at the airport with your laptop and need to record a show before your flight takes off. Just a few clicks to find the show you want and you'll get an email confirmation like below.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this program airs within 1 hour, you might miss it if your "Tivo1" DVR doesn't connect to the TiVo Service in time. We recommend scheduling this program directly on your TiVo DVR, otherwise it will simply be recorded the next time it airs.

Tivo channel lineup case number

I just got my second email regarding the error in my Tivo channel lineup. Now they assigned a "case number" to my issue. I x'd my case number out, but here's the email.
Dear Valued TiVo Customer,

Thank you for contacting TiVo's channel lineup department. We have assigned
case number xxxxxxx to your channel lineup issue. We expect to resolve the
issue within 5 to 7 business days.

Wrong show listed in Tivo's channel schedule

Today I wanted to record a show on the History channel, but Tivo had the schedule wrong. I submitted a report to Tivo, and got this friendly email back. I'll blog again if and when the issue gets fixed or not.

New "Recently Deleted" folder feature

Today my Tivo was updated with the Winter 2006 upgrade. It provides a great new feature, the "Recently Deleted" folder. This is similar to the familiar Windows file trash bin concept. Your shows aren't completely deleted until you delete them from this folder. If your Tivo needs space to record a new show, programs in this folder are the first to go. Tivo's 30 second skip feature!

I found a blog post yesterday on how to turn on Tivo's 30-second skip feature, tried it last night, and it works! This is a great hidden feature that you'll want to try. Here's what you do:
1) Start playing a recorded show
2) Press SELECT
3) Press PLAY
3) Press SELECT
4) Press 3
5) Press 0
6) Press SELECT
You should hear three quick beeps, which means the feature is set. Now, when you press the button below your remote's FFWD that has the arrow and bar ->|, it will jump 30 seconds, a quick way to skip thru commercials. Give it a try!

Tivo lifetime subscription phase-out

I just read that Tivo is phasing out their lifetime subscription plan. I purchased the lifetime fee in January, and we're very happy to be locked in now for the life of our Tivo box. Here is a good blog entry with more on this and some insight into the HD Series 3 boxes.
